Destiny 2’s massive annual showcase event is later today, one that’s taking place a season earlier than last time, with the game’s shifting expansion release schedule, and we know a whole bunch of stuff is being packed into it. Is.
Today’s showcase will feature a preshow that begins at 8 a.m. PDT/11 a.m. EDT, and the actual show will begin at 9 a.m. PDT/12 a.m. EDT, an hour before the reset and the launch of Season 18 itself. There’s also an aftershow, which might bother us until the reset, as I’m not sure how long the showcase is going to last. My guess is 20-30 minutes, but we’ll see.
While Showcase has suffered a really disappointing amount of story and content leaks over the past 24 hours, without really diving into them, here’s what we know is coming:
Season 18 information, which will reveal the premise of the impending season, and possibly a preview of Arc 3.0 to some extent.
Lightfall information, upcoming expansion story and potential new location details. Everyone’s also guessing the fifth subclass, the game’s second Darkness-based subclass.
A collaboration with Fortnite, which will see content crossover in both games and the game’s release on the Epic Store.
There are a few other things that are up in the air whether or not they can be painted. May refer to Season 19, given that Showcase is covering both the seasons before and after it. We’ve known that a Destiny mobile game has been in the works for some time, and it could theoretically choose to show itself today.
We also know that Destiny is hard to expand into multimedia, with the most common theory being that a Destiny animated series is in the works. But I’m certainly not banking on any of that, just what’s on the first list out there.
It is unfortunate that a lot has been leaked about the showcase ahead of time, and social media has been in turmoil for a few days now trying to dodge it all. But apparently with 200 times the actual footage put together in a coherent package, not just screenshots and text information, would be more compelling to watch.
It’s essentially impossible not to be hyped for these mega-showcases that we’re starting to see every year for Destiny if you’re a fan. And it’s funny that this season is happening on launch day, so we can take that hype and dive straight into new content, which I’ll be doing for the rest of the day (weeks, months). I’ll have some sort of recap of what was shown at the showcase later, so check it out here for my summary later.
