Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Vyo. told ABC News that there was no political motivation in conducting the FBI search of former President Donald Trump’s resort home in Palm Beach, Florida.
When asked about the Mar-a-Lago raids conducted by FBI agents, Cheney told ABC News, “I haven’t seen any evidence that there was any political motivation.”
“I was ashamed to hear that Republicans immediately attacked FBI agents executing search warrants,” Cheney said in an interview aired on Sunday, when I learned that President Trump had released the names of the agents, when he I was disgusted when a search warrant was issued without any search and now it has led to violence.
“It’s a really dangerous moment,” she said.
On the heels of the loss of her congressional primary, Cheney also said she would work with bipartisan political leaders to ensure that Trump doesn’t hold the nation’s highest office again.
“I think, I think we have to make sure he’s not our nominee,” Cheney told ABC News.
Cheney warned that characterizing Trump as rigging US elections is dangerous and disrupts the “fundamental work and principle at the heart of our constitutional republic”.
Cheney referred to Trump’s 2020 presidential election defeat and then the storming of the US Capitol on January 6, saying, “There’s just no way the nation, and in my view, forgive and put him in a position of power again.” ”
When asked about the January 6 committee, of which she serves as vice president, Cheney declined to say whether Trump would be called to testify.
“I don’t want to make any announcement about this this morning. I think it is very important. As I said in the first hearing and the second hearing. His talks with our committee will be under oath,” she said.
Cheney said the committee is in discussions with former Vice President Mike Pence’s legal adviser.
“When the country has gone through a dire situation like this, everyone has an obligation to have information to move forward. So I hope he does.” Cheney said.
