Ford has released a teaser of the exhaust note of the new 2024 Ford Mustang on Instagram ahead of the model’s upcoming show on September 14.
The video begins with a mean, rumble, followed by some deep, guttural growling as the engine restarts. Then we are supposed to remove the slight tire squeak and sound of the new Mustang in a hurry. It certainly has a sound to inspire Mustang loyalists, and the gravitas fit for a new generation of muscle car.
We already have a pretty good idea of what to expect from the new Mustang. The prototype of the vehicle has already been seen making massive V8 noises, and the model will still offer a manual gearbox.
According to unnamed sources cited by Ford Authority, the new model will carry the existing 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine and 2.3 EcoBoost inline four, though power figures are still up in the air. There has also been some talk about hybrid versions of both the engines coming down the line. This comes partly from a patent filed by Ford, and also from a mysterious post seen on LinkedIn by eagle-eyed forum users.
The shape of the new Mustang doesn’t feel much different from the current model. However, this is with the caveat that we have largely seen only heavily-camouflaged test mules in the wild.
The new-generation S650 Mustang is expected to last until at least 2030, at which point a new generation will take over. It’s a shift in the same ballpark as the current S550 Mustang, which debuted for the 2015 model year.
From what we’ve seen, the new Mustang looks to be a sharp, tough, coupe with a lot of grunt under the hood. Ford doesn’t seem to stray from the winning formula, even though it has explored some wacky ideas in the past.
Now all that is left to do is wait for the big reveal. We’ll have all the juicy details as soon as they drop, right here on September 14th.
