Fans are getting their first glimpse of Lea Michele as Fanny Brice. On Friday, the Twitter account of Broadway’s Funny Girl shared a promo of Michelle playing the iconic role she’s pursuing after Benny Feldstein’s short run.
In the promo, Michelle sings a part of “I’m the Greatest Star”, as her footage rolls in rehearsals for the show. Michelle dances, watches her script, practices blocking it, and chats with her classmates in the video.
“Who’s Pip with the Pizzas? / Who’s All Ginger and Jazz? / Who’s Equally Glamorous? / Who’s an American Beauty Rose with the American Beauty Nose / And Ten American Beauty Toes,” as Michelle Footage As she belts out the last line, the camera turns to the actress herself, before she sings.
In July, news broke that Michelle would be taking on the role of Fanny from Feldstein. At the same time, the show announced that Tova Feldshuh would replace Mitchell’s former Glee co-star, Jane Lynch, as Mrs.
“It was a really strong idea to premiere Feldshuh and Lee together. That’s the only reason [we won’t be appearing together],” Lynch told Deadline, explaining why she left production earlier than planned. Was being “I love [Michelle]. She’s just going to take this show and make it her own. I’m so glad she’s getting the opportunity to do the show in real life, and not just on Glee.”
About how Michelle feels about being cast, she said on Instagram that “a dream come true is an understatement.” Shortly thereafter, on her Instagram Story, Michelle shared a behind-the-scenes snapshot of herself and the cast of “Don’t Rain on My Parade” for the first time.
