Lake Bell is fresh from vacation and on the red carpet! ET’s Lauren Zima talks to Bell at the premiere of her coming-of-age drama, Summering, where she talks about her new film, and life at home with her kids, following her recent trip to Europe, where she’s seen as Chris Rock. was seen together.
The It’s Complicated actress told ET that the film, which sees four best friends on the verge of starting middle school making the best of the last weekend of the summer, before their lives are changed forever, will have a stand by. m has notes, but it also stands on its own.
“I think it has the notes of Stand By Me, but I really think there are themes of anxiety and fear that we just came across two and a half years ago,” Bell, which she shares with Kids. Ozgood, 5, and Nova, 7, with ex-husband Scott Campbell, explained. “This past kind of collective anxiety that we all have is reminiscent even in the tone and theme of the film, so there’s something really sweet about it, and generous and patient in spirit. And the way it was shot.”
She continued, “I mean, gosh, there aren’t that many, independent movies that I can take to my kids and say, ‘Okay, after watching this, a big conversation about some big topics. Do it. It’s an easy way. To attack like this.”
After her European vacation where The Rock was spotted with her, Bell is back home with her kids, where she says it feels great like summer.
“I’m back in my house with my kids now and our AC is broken, and I have to be honest. Like it’s so sweet that your kids are with you in bed, like, ‘Mom can I sleep with you? But I’m like, ‘Yeah, but bring twelve ice packs too,'” Bell said. “I literally sleep with ice packs on right now, so you know, Europe is great, but home is best.”
While she’s remained silent about her trip to Croatia with The Rock, a source told ET last month why the couple were a “perfect match.”
“Lake is very down-to-earth, and like Chris, she’s not too caught up in Hollywood gimmicks at all,” the source said, before adding Rock, “he finds her very refreshing.”
Aside from their aligned values, the source said that Rock, 57, and Bell, 43, have a similar sense of humour.
“She has a dry sense of humor and doesn’t take herself too seriously,” said the source for the actress who divorced Campbell in 2020.
The source noted that Rock and Bell are not putting any pressure on themselves, but rather looking at where their relationship will go.
“Lake is new to dating and her priority is on her two young children,” the source said. “Chris has a plate full of preparations for his upcoming tour dates and tapings of his comedy specials.”
Despite their busy schedules, the source added that Rock and Bell “are striving to fit in together time whenever possible,” from vacationing in Croatia to attending baseball games and spending time in Los Angeles, Holding hands where they have been seen.
