Twitter I have closed my office BrusselsBelgium, according to financial terms.

Citing multiple sources, the paper reported the social media platform’s European digital policy heads Julia Moser and Dario La Nassa exiting last week.

The office is now closed as the other four execs in the smaller Brussels office, which played a key role in relations with EU politicians because of its location, had already left as part of a massive redundancy.

Influential Mozer and La Nasa lead Twitter’s efforts to comply with the EU’s Disruption Code and Digital Services Act, which went into effect last week.

Twitter has been laying off employees ever since Elon Musk Half of his staff were cut in a round of restructuring and many others were soon laid off after the billionaire owner issued an ultimatum they must sign up for “extremely hardcore … long, hard hours” or leave the business.

The exits in Europe are concerned with local commentators. The EU vice-president in charge of the disinformation code, Vera Jourova, told the Financial Times she was “concerned about the news of the dismissal of such a large number of Twitter staff in Europe,” adding: “If you want to effectively address and take action against disinformation and propaganda, resources are needed for this.

“Particularly in the context of the Russian disinformation war, I expect Twitter to fully respect EU law and honor its commitments. Twitter has been a very useful partner in the fight against disinformation and illegal hate speech and that should not change.”

Musk made headlines last week by restoring the Twitter accounts of former President Donald Trump, who declined to return to the platform, and Kayne West. Many see their radical free speech approach as an unruly platform, but they say the company is bloated, not profitable and needs to embrace more voices. Their plans to overhaul Blue Tick verification have been stalled for the time being due to concerns about user identity.
