Koli LaFoon is paying tribute to Anne Heche after her death. The late actress’s ex-husband remembered Heche on Instagram on Friday and promised to take care of the son they shared.
Laffoon and Heche, who were married between 2001 and 2009, are parents to a 20-year-old son, Homer. Heche, who died Friday after a raging car accident a week ago, also has a 13-year-old son, Atlas, from his previous relationship with James Tupper.
“After Anne passed away, I just wanted to say a few things. One, I loved her and I miss her and I’m always going to leave. Two, Homer is fine,” Laphoon said in his video. “He’s sad, of course, and it’s tough. It’s really tough, as one can probably imagine, but he’s surrounded by family, and he’s strong, and he’s going to be okay. ”
“So to all those who are checking in, thank you for checking in, showing us your heart, prayers and all. It’s so beautiful. Thank you,” he continued. “It’s hard for me, it’s hard for my family, it’s really hard for Homer, but we’ve got each other’s back and we have a lot of support and we’re going to be fine.”
Now, Laphoon said, he likes to think that Heche is “free from pain, and enjoying or experiencing whatever lies ahead in its journey.”
“She was warm and had a lot to say. She was brave and fearless, really loving, and was never afraid to tell us what she thought, what she believed,” Laphoon fondly remembered. “It was always love. It was all about love.”
A tearful Luffon ended her video by saying, “Goodbye, Anne. Love you. Thank you. Thanks for all the good times. There were so many. See you on the other side. In the meantime, I found our son. He’ll be fine.” Love You.”
In addition to the emotional video, Laphoon shared an old photo of Heche holding her son when he was a toddler.
Laphoon captioned the shot, “It’s important to remember real love in the best of times.” “Thanks Anne. Peace on your journey.”
After Heche’s death, Homer issued a statement of his own.
“My brother Atlas and I lost our mother,” he told ET. “After six days of almost unbelievable emotional swings, I’m left with a deep, wordless sadness. Hopefully my mom is free from pain and I begin to explore what I love to imagine as her eternal freedom. Am.”
“In those six days, thousands of friends, family and fans told my heart out to me,” he said. “I am as grateful for their love as I am for the support of my dad, Koli, and my stepmom Alexi, who has been my rock during this time. Rest in peace mom, I love you.”
Meanwhile, Heche’s rep told ET that, although the actress’s heart is still beating, she is brain dead, which is the definition of death according to California law. Her representative said Heche has not been taken off life support as doctors are working to determine if her organs are viable, as the late actress was an organ donor.
“Today we lost a bright light, a kindest and happiest soul, a loving mother and a loyal friend,” a Heche representative told ET in a statement. “Anne will be greatly missed but she lives on through her beautiful sons, her distinguished body of work and her passionate advocacy. Her bravery to always stand in the truth, spread her message of love and acceptance continues to have a lasting impact. Will stay.
